Ranking All Aussie States by Cleanliness — From best to worst
Australia is beautiful — but some states are just cleaner than others. Whether it’s council investment, public respect, or just more brooms on the ground, here’s our 2025 cleanliness power ranking by state:
🧼 1. Western Australia (WA)
Perth is spotless. Suburbs are landscaped. Even beach toilets smell... neutral? WA’s natural pride translates to public space care.
🧠 City of Perth spends over $100M/year on city maintenance. It shows.
🧽 2. Tasmania (TAS)
Small, green, and quietly elite. Hobart is like that one house guest who wipes down your kitchen after dinner.
🏖️ 3. South Australia (SA)
Adelaide is clean, well-kept, and walkable. You rarely find gum on the pavement — or cigarette butts.
🛁 4. Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
Canberra’s controlled, bureaucratic vibe means its streets are swept and its bins are managed. Points deducted for sterile personality.
🌆 5. Victoria (VIC)
Melbourne’s metro is a mixed bag: city centre’s sharp, but outer ‘burbs can be grimy. Still, trams are surprisingly clean.
🌞 6. Queensland (QLD)
Beach towns = fresh. But inner Brisbane and Gold Coast nightlife strips? Stickier than a servo Slurpee. Daytime: stunning. Late night: risky.
🚇 7. New South Wales (NSW)
We’re looking at you, Sydney. From Bondi to Bankstown, cleanliness is postcode roulette. Some spots sparkle, others smell like last week’s bin juice.
📉 NSW has the highest population but one of the lowest per capita sanitation budgets.
🏚️ 8. Northern Territory (NT)
Remote towns = less oversight. Darwin struggles with humidity + foot traffic = grime magnet. Beautiful landscapes, but needs more maintenance muscle.
