Every Sydney Suburb Ranked from Cleanest to Filthiest (By the People Who Actually Clean Them)

đŸ§Œ Top 20 Cleanest Suburbs in Sydney

These suburbs don’t just look clean — they are clean. Businesses here prioritise hygiene, schedule regular professional cleans, and treat mop buckets with respect.

1. Double Bay

Double Bay businesses clean like their reputation depends on it — because it does. We rarely see dust, stains, or anything less than clinically pristine, even in back-of-house areas. You can practically eat off the skirting boards.

2. Mosman

Mosman is where white grout lives forever white. Every salon, cafĂ©, and office here has a cleaning roster that’s tighter than most corporate strategies. Even their mop buckets look like they’ve had Botox.

3. Paddington

Paddington is minimalist but thorough — they love aesthetic and hygiene. We’ve cleaned heritage properties here that still smelled newer than some Inner West start-ups. No dust allowed near a $28 candle.

4. Balmain East

Quiet, wealthy, and obsessed with subtle cleanliness, Balmain East businesses don’t scream hygiene — they whisper it with polished brass and spotless foyers. We’ve cleaned entire clinics that barely needed us. It’s unsettling
 in a good way.

5. Concord

Clean gyms, organised cafĂ©s, and no weird smells behind reception desks — Concord is solid. They don’t make a show of it, but local business owners here genuinely care about hygiene. They’re the definition of high-functioning quiet achievers.

6. Haberfield

Haberfield’s family-run shops take pride in their spaces — and it shows. We’ve rarely had to deep-scrub anything twice here. Old-school doesn’t mean sloppy, it means meticulous.

7. Bronte

Whether it’s a Pilates studio or a beachfront cafĂ©, Bronte keeps it clean. Beachy energy meets spa-level polish. Floors are swept, bathrooms are wiped, and you can smell the eucalyptus from down the street.

8. Barangaroo

Corporate zones like Barangaroo don’t mess around — cleaners are booked regularly, and standards are monitored. Even bins have a system. We’ve cleaned here after other cleaners
 and found nothing to improve.

9. Woollahra

It’s posh and it knows it. But it also backs it up — Woollahra has consistently tidy interiors, gleaming counters, and fresh-smelling foyers. Every surface feels like it just got wiped, even when it didn’t.

10. Neutral Bay

Neutral Bay is where tradie cafĂ©s and skin clinics coexist — and both somehow stay clean. There’s dust discipline here that we wish we could bottle. Rarely a dodgy corner, rarely a missed spot.

11. Bellevue Hill

Old money suburbs like Bellevue Hill don’t play around with grime. Behind every sandstone façade is a cleaner who’s probably been on payroll longer than the manager. It’s polished perfection with a quiet superiority complex.

12. Clovelly

Beach suburb by location, Type-A by hygiene. Clovelly cafĂ©s wipe every bench like they’re prepping for surgery. You’d think all the businesses here were auditioning for a Dettol commercial.

13. Hunters Hill

Hunters Hill is neat, discreet, and surprisingly detail-oriented. We’ve cleaned under cafĂ© booths and found nothing but crisp shadow lines. It’s the kind of suburb where mold knows it’s not welcome.

14. Drummoyne

Pet-friendly? Yes. Clean? Also yes. Drummoyne balances lifestyle and hygiene with rare grace — a combo of professional cleans and proud local ownership keeps most businesses gleaming.

15. Annandale

Annandale might not scream “clean,” but it performs like a valedictorian in disguise. We’ve done after-hours cleans and found desks already sanitised and bins already emptied. Quiet achiever energy.

16. Crows Nest

Crows Nest is stacked with hair salons, clinics, and cafĂ©s — and they all seem to know how to keep things sparkling. Towels are rotated. Floors are mopped. Mirrors? Streakless. It’s a strong mid-north showing.

17. North Sydney

It’s corporate, clinical, and cold
which means it’s also clean. North Sydney’s professional spaces run tight ships — and most already have standing cleaning contracts. We respect the discipline.

18. Beecroft

Suburban, leafy, and unexpectedly clean. Beecroft is one of those places where even the dog groomers mop twice a day. It doesn’t get the spotlight, but it absolutely deserves a trophy for “Most Underrated Sanitation.”

19. Lilyfield

Lilyfield may be small, but it punches above its weight. It’s that rare suburb where dentist clinics smell fresher than the waiting room plants. We’ve yet to see a dirty mop in the area — and that says a lot.

20. Rhodes

New developments = new expectations. Rhodes doesn’t carry old grime baggage — most businesses are newly fitted and actually care. They clean because it’s part of the brand, not just the checklist.

😐 Middle 20: Clean Enough
 Sometimes

Some fantastic businesses here. And some that clearly don’t have a cleaner. It’s hit or miss depending on street, budget, and industry.

21. Leichhardt

You’d think the pasta crumbs would be the issue, but Leichhardt’s actually trying. Businesses here are charming and often clean-ish — but we’ve seen a few too many sticky cafĂ© floors to place it higher. Still, solid effort from the old Italians.

22. Surry Hills

The design is flawless. The hygiene
inconsistent. Surry Hills gives you polished terrazzo and unpolished bin lids — it’s all about aesthetic, but not always about execution.

23. Petersham

Equal parts warm and chaotic. Some Petersham businesses are immaculate, while others are 5 years behind on their last professional clean. Depends if you’re in a yoga studio or an antique sandwich shop.

24. Newtown

Newtown is busy being quirky, not clean. We’ve scrubbed long-forgotten nooks behind espresso machines and found kombucha experiments. But at least they mean well — it’s mess with heart.

25. Five Dock

Mixed reviews. Some businesses treat cleaning like a religion (good ones). Others think lemon spray once a month is fine (not good ones). It’s the duality of Five Dock.

26. Alexandria

Alexandria gives minimalist industrial energy
but the dust builds fast in those sleek corners. Modern businesses mean modern expectations, but they don’t always live up to the fit-out. We clean here a lot — and it needs us.

27. Kingsford

Kingsford has potential, but follow-through is weak. Medical clinics are spotless. Massage parlours and takeaways? You don’t want to know what we found behind a fridge last month. It rhymed with “skin.”

28. Rosebery

They try. Really, they do. But Rosebery’s beautiful cafĂ©s and trendy businesses often forget that style needs scrubbing too. The front-of-house sparkles; the back room
 not so much.

29. Camperdown

Camperdown is the lovechild of university chaos and Inner West creative studios. Art studios? Pretty clean. Sandwich joints? We once found a spoon from 2017. Good people, patchy hygiene.

30. Ultimo

You’d expect better from somewhere so central. Ultimo’s got convenience stores with sticky counters and co-working spaces with mysterious carpet smells. Great location — needs great cleaners.

31. Erskineville

Erko’s quirky, cute, and chaotic. Businesses here often care deeply — but don’t always do deeply. There’s an “art student forgot to mop” energy to some cafĂ©s, though others are surprisingly sharp.

32. Wolli Creek

A suburb growing faster than its cleaning standards. Wolli Creek has potential, especially in new builds — but too many places treat hygiene like an optional extra. We’re often called here after a customer complaint, not before.

33. Zetland

Shiny fit-outs, dusty insides. Zetland is modern and marketed, but you’ll find a lot of backrooms running on Febreeze and denial. It’s a place where everything looks clean
 until you touch it.

34. Strathfield

High foot traffic, mixed execution. Strathfield has some brilliant clinics and restaurants that take pride in their polish. Then again, we’ve also cleaned bins that should be considered biological threats.

35. Chippendale

Chippendale’s identity crisis shows in its cleaning. Boutique and bougie meet lazy and leftover. Some art studios smell like a luxury spa. Some bathrooms smell like year 9 camp.

36. Stanmore

A suburb that tries — sometimes. Stanmore is small, scrappy, and inconsistent. We’ve had jobs here that required little more than a wipe
and others that required trauma therapy.

37. Coogee

The sea air helps, but the beach vibes do not extend to good hygiene practices. Sand + sweat + forgetfulness = coastal chaos. Your average Coogee juice bar? Looks healthy, smells suspicious.

38. Randwick

With the uni crowd comes the inevitable grunge. Randwick has a few high-end clinics that are spotless. But many hospitality venues run on wishful thinking and wet paper towels.

39. Northbridge

Nice suburb, surprisingly dusty businesses. There’s a local culture of “she’ll be right” that does not translate to bin rooms and staff bathrooms. A few deep cleans here would change the game.

40. Green Square

Gentrified fast, cleaned slowly. Green Square’s rapid development left a trail of modern but under-managed businesses. It’s all surface-level perfection until you check under the communal fridge.

😬 Bottom 20: Where Cleanliness Goes to Die

If we clean here, we bring backup. These suburbs need serious hygiene reform. Mold, mystery smells, dust hoarding, and health code violations — we’ve seen it all.

41. Glebe (non-waterfront)

We love Glebe’s charm, but some backstreets are a horror movie. Think crusty student rentals doubling as cafĂ©s and “boho chic” that smells like wet dog. The only thing that gets cleaned regularly here is the social media feed.

42. Rockdale

Rockdale has heart but zero hygiene protocols. Some shops genuinely try, but others
we’ve scrubbed things in commercial kitchens that could’ve applied for citizenship. Needs a culture reset and a mop.

43. Redfern

We’ve cleaned designer offices in Redfern that were immaculate — and then walked 50 metres and found a retail backroom with three types of slime. A suburb of extremes, but the bad side is sticky and smelly.

44. St Peters

The warehouses are cool. The bathrooms are not. Breweries and creative studios here often prioritise vibes over vacuums — and it shows in the floors, walls, and air quality.

45. Bankstown

Hustle culture is strong, cleaning culture
not so much. Bankstown is full of busy businesses too busy to clean, relying on “airing out” instead of sanitising. That doesn’t work, by the way.

46. Parramatta

It’s a major business hub — and some of it’s filthy. Parramatta has glistening towers with spotless foyers, but many shops and gyms forget the fundamentals. Dust, grime, and questionable mop water are regular guests.

47. Mascot

Mascot gives airport energy — high traffic, low scrubbing. We’ve cleaned cafes here with more oil residue than a mechanics garage. Everyone’s in a rush, including the mop guy.

48. Ashfield

It could be so much better. Ashfield’s got character and plenty of commerce, but cleaning routines are inconsistent at best. At worst? Sticky tiles and overflowing bins.

49. Punchbowl

A lot of businesses here rely on in-house staff to clean — and it shows. We’ve had to bring industrial-grade degreasers just to break through layers of neglect. Friendly people, questionable kitchens.

50. Liverpool

Liverpool’s sheer size means it varies wildly, but the average cleaning standard is low. We’ve seen salons with gunked-up floors, gym bathrooms that smell like regret, and offices that haven’t touched their air vents in years.

51. Auburn

Too many corners cut, not enough corners cleaned. Auburn has some shining exceptions, but mostly we find businesses using domestic-grade products to tackle industrial-level grime. (Spoiler: doesn’t work.)

52. Fairfield

The intent is there. The follow-through isn’t. We've walked into “just cleaned” cafĂ©s here and thought, “by who — a ghost with a feather duster?”

53. Cabramatta

Incredible food, chaotic kitchens. Cabramatta’s flavour doesn’t come from filth, but the lack of consistent deep cleans puts it far below the line. Also: please clean the fans. We beg you.

54. Blacktown

Volume over cleanliness is the default here. High-turnover shops and a DIY attitude make Blacktown tough to keep clean. We’ve done full-day cleans that only scratched the surface.

55. Lakemba

Lots of passion, little polish. Lakemba’s businesses often skip professional cleaning entirely, relying on once-a-month “good enough” routines. Newsflash: it’s not good enough.

56. Campsie

Friendly people, grimy floorboards. We’ve cleaned some clinics here that needed a priest more than a mop. There’s opportunity — but it’s buried under thick layers of neglect.

57. Mt Druitt

Mt Druitt gave us one of our most extreme before-and-after transformations. We still show the photos in training sessions. The suburb needs a collective intervention
 and maybe a pressure hose.

58. Hurstville

Busy and bold, but hygiene isn’t a priority. Moldy air vents, oily tiles, and bin juice puddles — we’ve seen it all. Hurstville’s best businesses are clean. The rest drag the average down hard.

59. Canterbury

A solid “meh” suburb for cleanliness. Nothing here ever seems truly clean — more like a surface-level wipe followed by wishful thinking. If we had $1 for every sticky table in Canterbury

60. Granville

Granville is the boss level of dirt. Our cleaners go in with gloves, masks, and prayers. It’s not that they don’t care — it’s that no one’s cleaned properly since 2006.
